Discipleship - How much does it cost?

Luke 14:25-27; 34-35

What is a disciple?
Greek: mathates (a learner - one who follows one's teachings)
God does not want a follower, he wants a disciple.

1. Making of a Disciple
Love others less than Jesus! (the meaning of 'hate' in the verses)
Your love for Jesus must supercede anything else
Carry your cross daily (He wants us to be indentified with Him)
-->It means a goodbye to our own comittment and wants

It is not informational; It is transformational

2. Attitudes of a Disciple
Persevering Spirit: Like a soldier (2 Tim 2:3-4)
Discipline: Like an athlete (2 Tim 2:5) - Disciplined TAWG/QT
Be Hardworking: Like a farmer (2 Tim 2:6)
